Le livre Day of The Champion a inspiré le film Grand Prix de Frankenheimer et la MGM et Day of the Champion des studios Warner avec Steve McQueen. Le tournage des 2 films a commencé en 1965. En 1966 Steve tournait également The sand Pebbles qui durera 7 mois au lieu des 9 semaines prévues.
Warner arrêta le tournage de Day of the Champion pendant l'été 1966 lorsqu'il fut établi que Grand Prix sortirai le premier. La photo qui a inspiré cette oeuvre a été prise chez Alan Mann en Angleterre.
