The painter Farnoosh Ashrafi, born in Uroumieh in Iran, was one of the most interesting discoveries of the Hamburg Kunsttreppe in recent years, and his work was first presented to the general public in 2000. Farnoosh Ashrafi came to at the age of 15, where he finished school and studied graphic design and illustration at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences. From an early age, his real inclination was painting, in which he continued to train himself through studio training and painting trips.
Farnoosh Ashrafi's frequently chosen starting point for his painting compositions is drawing. In his sketches, he collects daily perceptions and motifs that particularly excite and challenge him, and in them he fixes his ideas. His drawings are mostly representational in nature, but he stylizes his paintings to the point of being close to pure abstraction. His large-format acrylic works on canvas therefore evoke many associations in the viewer. Natural tones dominate his current groups of works, the contours and compositions suggest the appearance of architecture and other elements of the objective world of objects. His artistic expression is based on the painting of the second modernism of the post-war period, which can be found in his works through the stylistic devices of informal art and abstract expressionism.
"Light, color and atmosphere come together to create associative dream architectures, landscapes and mysterious interiors. Spaces and dreams are the motto of Ashrafi's painting, in which he brings inner and outer realities together."
