Linda Boersma & Boudewijn Mensingh are professional photographers. In 2021 they started working together and developed their idea into what it is today.
Linda was educated at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy (Fashion) in Amsterdam. She has worked and interned at styling agencies and at Dries van Noten in Antwerp. Later, she designed her own collection. She worked at the Chamber of Commerce in Amsterdam for over 20 years and five years ago she shifted her focus to photography.
Boudewijn studied photography at the Harrow School of Photography in London. After his education he worked in commercial and reportage photography. His exploration of philosophy and art history led him to develop a unique approach to creating art through photography.
The fact that a photo is a frame from reality, a fragmentation of perception, has prompted them to look at photography from a different perspective: the photo as part of a whole.
Through experimentation, they discovered that photos can complement and strengthen each other through their individual identities.
With this in mind, they started using photos as prefab building blocks to create autonomous works that reveal a new coherence.
This has led to a working process that is an essential part of their art and defines their visual language. The process is both systematic and intuitive. It allows chance and is unpredictable.
They create the works individually. Depending on personal choices and decisions, they search for combinations that form a unity without a predetermined outcome. Different choices and decisions, still using the same photos, will result in a different work. The outcome of the search is the final artwork.
By using the same photo archive and the same system, the individually created artworks form a unity. Mutual inspiration, evaluation, and consultation strengthen that unity.
Special about their method is that the style of the artwork is determined by the character of the photos. Using photos of a different nature results in a different style. The working method connects the different styles.
The artworks are abstract constructions based on figurative elements. They have their own reality. They are a representation of themselves.
